Recently footage from the 2018 fatal shooting that took place in a North Carolina Walmart involving DaBaby was released by Rolling Stone, which appeared to question his claim of self-defense in the situation. Now DaBaby’s legal team is speaking out about the footage and says that it supports his self-defense claim.
DaBaby’s lawyers Drew Findling and Marissa Goldberg spoke with TMZ about the footage and said prosecutors had already seen the footage back in 2018, and they came to the conclusion that DaBaby acted in self-defense in the situation, which resulted in him not being prosecuted for homicide.
They said to the site,
“Witnesses were interviewed and corroborated Mr. Kirk’s statement. The entirety of the surveillance video was viewed and determined to corroborate Mr. Kirk’s statement … Mr. Kirk was protecting himself and his family at the time of the shooting.”
TMZ reports that the footage was also seen by a judge in Mecklenburg County in connection with a misdemeanor charge for not having the proper permits for his gun.
As previously reported, at the time of the incident, DaBaby claims Jaylin Douglas and Henry Craig followed him around the store and allegedly flashed a gun at him, causing him to react in self-defense. In the end, DaBaby was not charged in the shooting but he did receive a charge for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, and that charge was later dropped in 2019. He also received unsupervised probation for 12 months and a suspended 30-day jail sentence.
After the clip from the incident recently surfaced, DaBaby reacted to the situation by sharing the Tyrese crying meme, and said, “No disrespect to my boy Tyrese, but damn bruh. What more do you want from meeee?”
