It’s been several years since former President George W. Bush was in the spotlight, but he’s currently making headlines once again for a very shocking reason. Following a recent months-long investigation by the FBI, it has reportedly been revealed that ISIS planned to assassinate George W. Bush in Dallas, Texas back in November 2021.
According to an exclusive report by @Forbes, an official search warrant from the FBI, that was filed on March 23rd and unsealed earlier this week, confirmed that a reported ISIS operative had plans for murder George W. Bush with a plot that included traveling to the former president’s home and recruiting a team of compatriots he intended to smuggle into the country over the Mexican border. The ISIS operative (who was uncovered on surveillance footage) said he wanted to assassinate Bush because he believed the former president was responsible for killing several Iraqi citizens and breaking apart Iraq after the U.S. military invaded the country back in 2003, during the early days of his presidency.
In November 2021, the ISIS operative confided in an undercover FBI insider and revealed the assassination plot, asking if he knew how to “obtain replica or fraudulent police and/or FBI identifications and badges” to assist him in his murder plans against George W. Bush. The suspect also inquired if it was possible to smuggle his accomplices out of the country the same way they came in after they successfully murdered Bush.
Investigating with the help of two confidential informants and surveillance of the potential assassinator’s WhatsApp account, it was discovered that the ISIS operative had been in the U.S. since 2020 waiting approval for a pending asylum application, according to the FBI’s search-warrant application.
That’s not the only person the would-be murderer had on his hit list, as he also had plans to assassinate a former Iraqi general who helped Americans during the war that he felt was living under a new identity in the U.S.
Surveillance footage further confirmed that the ISIS operative said that he was a member of a unit called Al-Raed, led by a former Iraqi pilot for Saddam Hussein. The suspect’s plan also included recruiting as many as seven members of Al-Raed being sent to the U.S. to kill George W. Bush with the intent “to locate and conduct surveillance at Bush’s residences and/or offices and obtain firearms and vehicles to use in the assassination.”
The ISIS operative has since been arrested and charged with aiding and abetting a murder plot.
Recently George W. Bush made headlines after he mistakenly criticized Vladimir Putin’s “unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraq” while making a speech at his presidential center in Dallas. He then quickly corrected himself and said Ukraine.
